Whew, when I heard Brene Brown say this in an interview with Oprah Winfrey I stopped dead in my tracks. Rarely do I hear creativity talked about as an essential part of our health and well being. Most of us think of it as an after thought or the thing we will get to once all our “shoulds” are complete. And sadly I hear so many people say that they are not creative at all.
But the truth is we all are creative, it’s just a matter of if we choose to exercise our creativity or if we choose allow it lie dormant. Creativity is anything and everything you can think of that gives us a feeling of joy and it is directly connected to our health and well being. Studies show it can actually help decrease dementia, make you smarter, make you happier, and improve your immune system! Sure we don’t need it to “survive” but I would argue it’s an essential ingredient for us to thrive.
If you know me you know that I am a big cheerleader for creative expression. It’s helped me through the loss of loved ones, divorce, challenges with my kiddos, business struggles and set-backs and more, and it continues to be a consistent joy builder in my life.
This is why I will be adding more creative resources to our Cap Wellness community that can help us heal, grow, learn and connect through sharing our creative gifts. I hope you will join in!
This month I will be hosting our first Sit and Knit Group January 25th from 10:30-12. I have recently found a love for knitting and crochet and have learned that many of you share this same passion. This group is FREE but you will need to bring your own supplies (hit reply if your not sure what that is) we will meet monthly on the last Friday of the month at 10:30-12 in the yoga room.
